E-Shelter - our data center location in Rümlang

We operate a large part of our services and our own IT infrastructure in the e-shelter. The top-class data center is located in Rümlang, while e-shelter also offers additional locations in Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, London, Munich and Vienna. In the blog you can read why we decided to work with E-Shelter in Zurich and how you as a customer can benefit from this.

Highly available and energy efficient

The E-Shelter Datacenter is located three minutes from the Zurich-Rümlang motorway exit. It is the first and so far only E-Shelter data center in Switzerland and was opened in June 2011. The data center consists of two building sections and comprises a total of around 7000 square meters of highly available data center space in the first section. The building is designed exclusively for operation as a data center and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The increase in energy efficiency, for example by storing rainwater for cleaning the cooling system or heat pumps for heating large office and storage areas outside the data center, demonstrates the high standard of the e-shelter. Furthermore, the data center has two independent power supplies, two separate UPS systems, as well as redundant emergency power supply systems with diesel generators which ensure operation in case of an emergency. Critical infrastructure systems are monitored by our own technical staff.

Safe and certified

Security is the second central feature that a data center has to fulfill, besides high availability. 24/7 security is provided by the E-Shelter's security control center with staff from E-Shelter Security. There are standardized security processes and a seven-level security system which secures the rental areas and the technical operation. Access to the data center is also clearly regulated so that no unauthorised persons can enter the data center. Access control is carried out via chip card and PIN (with biometric features if desired). Furthermore, the property boundaries are secured by an electronically monitored security fence, which includes protection against climbing over and under the ground. In addition, the e-shelter in Rümlang meets the PCI-DSS requirements and has ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 50001 certification.
