How Xelon helps Z83 AG focus on what really matters

Handling sensitive financial and personal data every day, the Swiss tech-enabled service provider Z83 AG relies on absolute security and reliability. Discover how Z83 AG strengthened its IT infrastructure and unlocked new potential with a sovereign Swiss Cloud by Xelon.

Z83 AG specializes in delivering accounting and CFO-as-a-Service support to digital businesses, startups, and small- to medium-sized companies. What sets this player apart is its digital-first mindset: Z83 AG aims to free entrepreneurs and business owners from routine bookkeeping and administrative burdens, giving them time to focus on their core operations. “We’ve got entrepreneurs’ backs,” summarizes Luca Ferrari, CFO and partner at Z83 AG.

The name Z83 AG is rooted in the German word for time (“Zeit”) and the average human life expectancy of 83 years. “Time is our most precious asset. With roughly 83 years statistically available to us, it’s essential to make the most of this finite resource. Our goal is to pursue meaningful endeavors and work with positive people who value one another,” explains Luca Ferrari.

A secure and stable IT infrastructure accelerates product development

Founded in 2020, Z83 AG has grown rapidly and employs nearly 30 talents by the end of 2025. The fast-growing company, headquartered in Olten, is currently developing its own payroll software for Swiss SMEs. “There is currently no great payroll solution for smaller companies, so we decided to build our own, fully tailored to the needs of our small business and startup clients,” says Luca Ferrari.

Expanding their service portfolio requires a secure and stable IT infrastructure. The sovereign Swiss Cloud by Xelon enables Z83 AG to stay focused on its mission while continuing to develop its products. “We handle highly sensitive data every day, and it’s crucial that this data is stored exclusively in Switzerland. Our customers know that many things could go wrong if such data were hosted abroad,” adds Ferrari.

Skepticism towards global Clouds has increased

Like Z83 AG, many Swiss companies now view U.S. Cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure with increased skepticism. A major concern is the U.S. CLOUD Act (Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data Act), enacted in 2018. The CLOUD Act requires U.S. companies to provide data to U.S. authorities even when that data is stored outside the United States. In other words: even if an American Cloud provider operates data centers in Europe, it can still be forced to hand over that data.

Additionally, U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies have been heavily focused on U.S. interests, creating uncertainty about long-term international reliability. This has led companies across Switzerland and Europe to question whether a provider from a country with unpredictable foreign and economic policies can be a trustworthy long-term partner.

Even before Trump’s second term, the EU and Switzerland had been pursuing greater digital sovereignty. A Swiss Cloud supports this goal by providing stronger control over data, infrastructure, and technology standards. Trump’s nationalist agenda further accelerated this shift by highlighting the risks of one-sided dependencies. With Xelon, all customer data stays in Switzerland at all times.

“We never had a faster experience than with Xelon”

How did the Cloud migration go? “It’s like a dream come true that we finally did it! We planned to complete the migration by the end of the year and doing it already in September was a great achievement. I think I never had a faster experience than with Xelon,” says Luca Ferrari. “Everything was so quick and easy. It looked great; it worked even better, and we were all happy. The experience gave us a really, really positive feeling that everything is going to be okay.”

And things have indeed been more than just okay since migrating their systems to a sovereign Swiss Cloud by Xelon. “The Cloud hosting platform delivers exceptional performance and reliability,” shares Eldrin Sekiraqa, CTO at Z83 AG. The collaboration seems to align closely with Z83 AG’s philosophy of working with positive and appreciative partners: “The Xelon team has been fantastic to work with. They were extremely supportive and always open to feedback,” recalls Eldrin Sekiraqa.
