Xelon helps IT service providers, system integrators, SaaS providers and ICT managers simplify IT infrastructure management. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to bring enterprise IT environments to Xelon's cloud and make outsourcing successful.

These are the advantages of Cloud Computing

Scalability, flexibility, cost efficiency, the expansion of the portfolio without investment costs and a chance to deepen customer loyalty: Outsourcing IT to the cloud offers IT service providers numerous advantages in the support of their customers' IT infrastructures. Instead of stockpiling performance with their own bare-metal servers, replacing hardware every five to seven years and having little leeway for expansion, more and more cloud service resellers are sourcing custom-fit cloud computing.

Everything for a clean outsourcing of IT to the cloud

Xelon helps IT service providers bring their on-premise infrastructure into the cloud. "The existing infrastructure is migrated 1:1 into the cloud. Ideally, the end customer will not notice anything at all about the migration and everyday work will not be affected, while the IT infrastructure can be more easily maintained and expanded in the background," explains Yannick Gerber, Cloud Engineer at Xelon.

Ready within a few minutes

In Xelon HQ, complete server infrastructures for customers and projects in the public or private cloud can be created within minutes. After migration, the IT environment can be adapted or expanded at the click of a mouse, and thanks to the pay-as-you-go payment model, only resources that are actually used need to be paid for. Xelon HQ not only simplifies server management, but also portfolio expansion and billing.

The migration in 10 steps when outsourcing IT to the cloud

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to migrate virtual machines (VM) to Xelon HQ:

  1. Determine which on-premise VMs to migrate(Hyper-V or VMware VMs)
  2. Map on-premise LAN 1:1 in the Xelon HQ
  3. Install the replication software (on-premise) and connect to Xelon
  4. Initial Sync: Replicate VMs initially to Xelon and import into Xelon HQ
  5. Make the network assignment in the Xelon HQ
  6. Create gateway: You can do this by provisioning a virtual firewall (for example, from Forti, Sophos, SonicWall and other known vendors) or by using the Xelon firewall service.
  7. Determine the time for switching in cooperation with the end customer
  8. Make DNS adjustments to the new external IP
  9. Replicate last change data: The on-premise VMs are shut down and then booted into Xelon HQ.
  10. Testing: Are all accesses guaranteed for end customers? Can all important functions be accessed?
    optional: make any necessary adjustments
